​정예린은 ‘종이’에 입체적 성질을 물리적으로 부여한다. 돌을 표현하던 물을 표현하던 물이면서 돌, 공기이면서 물을 정예린의 세계 속 종이는 알레고리로써 기능한다. ‘BLOOM’ 시리즈는, 종이에 열을 가해 기하하적으로 규정할 수 없는 우연한 기포를 만들어낸다. ‘종이’라는 매체가 갖는 감각적 성질을 자족적으로 드러내어 평면성과 입체성, 바탕과 대상을 물리적 이미지로 표현함과 동시에 기호적 종이에 의해 관념적 종이는 해체된다.

Jung Yerin endows paper with a physically embodied, three-dimensional quality. In her work, paper becomes an allegorical medium—at once water and stone, air and water—collapsing boundaries between material states. In the BLOOM series, she applies heat to paper, generating spontaneous bubbles that defy geometric definition. By allowing the sensorial characteristics of paper to reveal themselves, she transforms flatness and volume, ground and figure, into physical imagery. Through this process, the symbolic notion of “paper” is dismantled, leaving only the material’s inherent presence.
